Description
"It sounds simple, but it's about presence in places, so it's a poetry of waiting, but waiting for what?
Waiting, for photos to be taken, without wondering what the point is, but just to be there, to communicate between photographer and photographed, like an exchange of mute words, photography allowing us to speak in silence, just with glances, because that's what it's always about, the gaze, of both the photographed and the photographer. Here, a father and his daughter. »
Preface by Bernard Plossu
"The images of Thomas Klotz articulate themselves, juxtapose one another like a montage. The correspondences, punctuations, and ruptures for me tell a story both familiar and mythological: a tale of the mountain and the girl. Her first glance is absorbed by this world of ours, so much bigger than herself. She prepares for an ascent. So many new things that must be left behind. And so soon. But is there no manual for that? Her gaze interrogates the lens and, behind it, her father. Which way should I go? Is there nothing written on the board? A color code perhaps? What signposts should I follow? Should I do what they tell me to do? Is that the head of the trail? She abandons herself: lost. In surprise and commotion. Lost in the empty spaces. In the overcoats, the school bags lurking in the night.”
