Description
After their separation in 1847, George Sand undertook to erase every material trace of Chopin from her house. This act of erasure, paradoxically, heightens today the sense of absence that permeates the place. FLORE explores this tension between presence and absence. Through processes that play with materiality, layering, blur, and photographic ghosts, she brings back the spirit of the place and the memory of a vanished love. The title of the book, “I am in strange worlds,” a quotation by Frédéric Chopin, resonates as an invitation to enter a universe suspended between dream and reality, at the height of the Romantic era.
The book brings together texts by three authors who shed light on different facets of the project:
Aurélie Razimbaud
Marie Lavandier and Elizabeth Braoun (Centre des Monuments Nationaux)
Seweryn Kuter (Chopin Museum, Warsaw)
