Description

This series, originally exhibited at Impressions Gallery in York in 1979, was the first color photography exhibition shown in the UK. Revisited at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2017 and the Charleroi Photography Museum in 2020, A New Refutation of the Viking 4 Space Mission had never before been published as a book.

Bilingual, the volume reproduces all the images from the series—mainly square-format portraits of Leeds residents, captured in front of their homes or shops during the 1970s. The backdrop unfolds an astonishing Martian investigative tale: at a time when the first Viking probes were being sent into space, here a Martian probe lands in Leeds and comments on the photographs.

This book is co-published by Maison CF and RRB Publishing.
